A teenage youth was found dead just days after being falsely accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Finding

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Start

The inquest learned how his mother received a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's remains had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the items was never stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged taken remains generated online responses, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his parent said people "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Health Impact

She added that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the resident who lived there had said he could use the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest learned that a 19-year-old encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the evening before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The inquest heard from school personnel at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's parents' telephone and left a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his parents said they never got that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Probably untruths were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the medium of social media.

"On November 11th, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his interview he was freed whilst investigations proceeded."

The official determined: "There is no proof that the actions or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
